Finance Director

The Reproductive Health Network (RHNK) is a legally registered, not for profit organization that was borne out of the need to bring together public and private trained reproductive health providers committed to provision of comprehensive sexual and reproductive health and rights, advocacy and service provision, through strategic partnerships and capacity building. The mission of RHNK is to provide evidence based information and quality comprehensive reproductive services in Kenya.

Job Title:

Finance Director


Terms of Engagement:

A 12-month contract, renewable upon availability of funds and reviewed on performance basis.

Finance Director: Position Overview

Finance Director provides the leadership and management necessary to ensure that the organization has the appropriate financial infrastructure and systems in place to support the strategic vision and mission of the organization. S/he will contribute to the development of the organization’s strategic and operational plans and be accountable for ensuring and monitoring delivery against the financial plans through targeted and comprehensive financial analytical review.  The Director is responsible for overseeing the financial and accounting management of the organization, maintaining financial management practices and systems that are compliant with donor requirements.


Key Duties & Responsibilities:


Financial Management

· Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and controls to ensure the efficient and effective management of RHNK's financial resources.

· Manage day-to-day financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial reporting.

· Monitor financial performance against budget and provide timely and accurate financial reports.

· Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and risks, and make recommendations for improvement.

· Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations and standards, including taxation, auditing, and donor requirements.


Planning, Budgeting and Resource Mobilization

· Collaborate with the Executive Director to develop long-term financial plans, strategies, and budgets aligned with RHNK’s strategic priorities.

· Provide financial insights and analysis to support strategic decision-making, program planning, and resource mobilization efforts.

· Identify potential funding opportunities, partnerships, and revenue diversification strategies to enhance RHNK’s financial sustainability and impact.


Grants and Contracts Management

· Oversee the financial management of grants and contracts, including budget development, expenditure tracking, and reporting to donors.

· Ensure compliance with donor requirements and regulations, including the timely submission of financial reports and supporting documentation.

· Monitor grant budgets, expenditures, and deliverables, and proactively address any financial issues or variances.


Team Leadership and Capacity Development

· Lead and mentor the finance team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.

· Promote knowledge sharing, best practices, and continuous improvement initiatives to optimize financial performance and organizational effectiveness.

· Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and collaboration within the finance department and across RHNK’s operations.


Location

The employee shall be based at the RHNK secretariat, and shall be required to travel at least 50% of their time.


Qualifications and Experiences

· Bachelor's degree in Finance or accounting, Masters Degree, CPA or equivalent experience a must.

· A member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK).

· At least 10 years of progressive experience in financial management, preferably in the non-profit sector and Sacco.

· Strong knowledge of financial principles, practices, and regulations.

· Experience managing funds from diverse funders.

· Efficient with expertise in inventory control and processes, managing payroll, general ledger management, handling bank reconciliations, payment processing and management of Accounts payable and receivable.

· In-depth understanding of accounting principles, such GAAP, IFRS, IPSAS and varied donor reporting standards.

· Proficient in the use of accounting software, such as SAP, QuickBooks, Advanced Excel, SUN, Navision and various ERP systems to efficiently manage financial transactions, generate reports, and perform data analysis.

· Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

· Ability to work effectively in a multicultural and diverse team environment.
